We are delighted to announce that City People have been appointed to lead the Arts, Play and Discovery strategy at both Westmead and Randwick.
In hospitals, art and play provide a sense of welcome, of comfort, respite, ritual and life-force uplift in a clinical environment most families would otherwise associate as one of the most confronting experience of their lives.
The Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network (SCHN) is using the power of art and play to build the collective wellbeing of patients, families, staff, researchers, volunteers and the community who visit our hospitals and use our healthcare services.
To assist the SCHN in creating a welcoming space, City People aims to inspire people to connect with each other and the place in which they live, work or visit to enrich their lives and the places themselves.
People who are able to experience diverse cultural elements (use of public art through to performance or artist-designed elements in shared spaces) forge a connection to that place. City People aims to harness and draw on that to create a well-loved place or destination for staff, patients and their families at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead.
City People have led these ‘culture-led placemaking’ projects to help create place identity in a range of contexts: from cultural planning for Circular Quay, to activation and public art project creative development for Western Sydney Parklands to COVID-recovery activation programs for the City of Sydney.
To support City People’s work, Toy Diplomacy have been onboarded to assist in delivering this strategy to position play and creativity as an engine and as a driver in navigating preparedness, social change, recovery, empowerment and resilience.
With their expertise, we look forward to working with City People in leading the Arts, Play and Discovery strategy for The Children’s Hospital.
