Image-(00A)-(2).jpegA water slide, dirt bike track and garden maze for patients and families are just some of the creative elements featured in nine-year-old Hunter’s winning virtual design of the Paediatric Services Building (PSB) as part of a recent redevelopment Minecraft competition.

The competition asked Minecraft enthusiasts to harness their imagination to create their own virtual version of the PSB for a chance to win a $100 Westfield gift voucher.

In a similar vision to the future hospital building, which is due for completion in 2025, Hunter’s take on the design includes different areas for patients and families to relax privately as weel as areas for families to connect with others in joyful and engaging settings.

“I created a patient area that has privacy banners and flowers for happiness and a relaxing bed,” Hunter said.

Hunter said the addition of a dirt bike track in design of the new facilities would give people a challenging but fun course to drive on.

Hunter is a proud bone marrow transplant donor for his brother Weston at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead and wanted his virtual hospital to “include lots of fun stuff for kids to enjoy”.

Congratulations to all entrants of the Minecraft competition who demonstrated the importance of vibrant, welcoming and joyful spaces indoors and outdoors to support patients, families and staff.
